#34: The Magic Castle

The Magic Castle in Hollywood is an invite-only magic club and restaurant that features the best magicians in the country... Maybe even the world.

I was luckily able to get an invite, so without hesitation I headed over to the castle with seven friends for a night of magic and mystery.

One of the coolest features of the castle is the entryway--a secret passageway in the bookcase. You yell "Open Sesame!" and the case rotates before your eyes. Awesome! Another great feature of the castle is the parlor where a ghost plays songs that you request.

The highlight of the night was the show in the close up gallery, a small theater that fits only 40 people or so. The magician featured was a guy named Toto from Japan. He was so funny (and a great magician as well), I laughed so hard I was tearing up. After countless "What?" "No way!"s, we migrated to the main show. The guy in the main show kept making these cards appear out of thin air. It sounds like a cliche-out of thin air--but it really was like that. Big cards, little cards, medium sized cards. It was nuts.

I went on a Sunday night, and it wasn't too crowded. I would definitely recommend searching out someone who has a connection to this place so that you can get an invite.
