#165: Spontaneous Fantasia

We returned to the Glendale Planetarium this weekend for a show that has replaced the defunct Laserium (#68) as my favorite trippy blow-your-mind experience in L.A..

Spontaneous Fantasia is the creation of J-Walt, who is an Academy Award winning interactive designer, filmmaker, graphic artist and composer. His hour long show is entirely improvised--no two shows are alike. To self-composed music, J-Walt creates animated landscapes and figures that defy the imagination. As you watch the projections on the giant planetarium dome, you feel like you are flying through space. You may even get motion sick! (If you do, just close your eyes--the planetarium isn't moving!)

My favorite piece of the evening was Pachelbel's Canon. His rendition of it brought tears to my eyes. It was beautiful.

The next show is on May 7 at 5:30 and 7 pm. Tickets are around $12 online or $15 at the door.
